Convert PDF to Excel Online

This free PDF to Excel converter reads the text inside a PDF and places it into an editable Excel (.xlsx) workbook. Text that appears on roughly the same line in the PDF is grouped into one Excel row, so you can open the result in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice and continue working. It is built for accountants, bookkeepers and business owners who need to get numbers out of PDF reports, and it runs in your browser with no signup.

How to Convert PDF to Excel

  1. Upload your PDF: drag and drop the file into the box above, or click browse files (up to 50 MB).
  2. Click "Convert to Excel (.xlsx)": the tool reads the PDF page by page and builds your workbook.
  3. Download and review: open the .xlsx file, check the data and edit it as needed.

Why Use This PDF to Excel Converter?

  • Free to use with no signup required.
  • Private: conversion runs locally in your browser, and your PDF is not uploaded to an ERP Accounting Hub server.
  • Made for accounting and finance users: useful for getting figures from bank statements, invoices, ledgers and reports into a spreadsheet.
  • Editable output: you get an .xlsx workbook you can sort, filter and use in formulas.
  • Works in modern desktop and mobile browsers, depending on your device and PDF size.

What Types of PDFs Can You Convert?

The converter works with text-based (digital) PDFs, meaning PDFs where you can select and copy the text. These are typically exported from accounting software, ERP systems, online banking or Excel itself. Files up to 50 MB are supported, depending on your browser and device memory.

PDF to Excel Conversion Accuracy

This tool extracts text and arranges it into rows by its position on the page. It does not detect table borders or merged cells, so results depend on how each PDF is laid out.

Works best with:

  • Text-based PDFs
  • Bank statements exported from online banking
  • Simple, single-line table rows
  • Accounting and ERP reports
  • Invoices and financial statements with a clear layout

May need manual checking:

  • Complex tables and merged cells
  • Multi-column page layouts
  • Irregular spacing between columns
  • Descriptions that wrap over several lines
  • Empty cells: a blank Debit or Credit column is not kept, so an amount can shift into the neighbouring column
  • Numbers and dates: values are placed in Excel as text, so you may need to convert them to numbers

Not currently supported:

  • Image-only scanned PDFs
  • OCR (text recognition from images)

Convert Bank Statements, Invoices and Financial Reports

Accounting users often need to move figures from a PDF into Excel for reconciliation, analysis or bookkeeping. This tool can help with bank statements, invoices, trial balances, ledgers, sales reports, payroll reports and ERP reports, as long as they are text-based PDFs. After converting, check dates, debit and credit columns, running balances and totals before you rely on the data. Rows where a debit or credit cell is blank are the most likely to end up in the wrong column. For next steps, see our guides on bank reconciliation and ERP accounting automation.

Text-Based vs Scanned PDFs

A text-based PDF contains real, selectable text. A scanned PDF is a picture of a page, so there is no text for the tool to read. If you cannot select text in your PDF, it is most likely scanned, and it needs OCR before it can be converted to Excel. This converter does not include OCR.

PDF to Excel vs OCR: What's the Difference?

OCR (optical character recognition) turns text in an image into real text. A text-based PDF already contains text, so this converter can read it directly. A scanned PDF is an image, so it needs OCR first, and OCR accuracy depends on scan quality. This tool does not include OCR.

Tips for Better PDF to Excel Results

  1. Use a PDF where you can select and copy the text.
  2. Prefer simple, single-column tables over multi-column page layouts.
  3. Check that dates were converted correctly, and that amounts sit in the right column (especially when Debit or Credit is blank).
  4. Convert text to numbers in Excel before using SUM or other formulas.
  5. Compare debit and credit totals with the original PDF.
  6. For bank statements, verify the opening and closing balance.
  7. Reconcile tax and accounting data before using it in final reports.
